Welcome

Welcome to my blog. I hope we can help each other endure the pain of the addiction of a daughter or son.

Yesterday was up so today had to be down.

Beth arrived at 10:00 am and we spent the day looking for a rental. She had not slept well at the boyfriends house and she was very tired. We looked at so many places including subsidized rental apartments which in reality did not exist. The waiting lists were many months long or closed. These places were very dangerous anyhow with drugs in your face all the time.

She got very stressed out thinking about how to make ends meet on her allotment. It is not really possible so the plan is to work out some sort of situation where she pays a certain amount and we supplement it. We replied to 20 adds for rooms for rent but no one replied. The sources were craig's list, roomster and roomates.com. They will not take her on what she recieves for SSI as it never does cover the rent. I will have to co-sign or so they say.

At the end of the day there was really only one real possibility. 640 plus utilities per month on a month to month basis. Ugh

  1. I spent the morning interrupting my work and trying to figure out a way to get some money into my son's bank account so that if there was an emergency on his drive home (first time with the car in 8 months), he could handle it. Of course there was no emergency! The good news he didn't ask or manipulate to make this happen; and I reacted as a "nervous nelly" mom!

I so hope that you and Beth together can find an appropriate living situation for Beth. It is important for your peace of mind and for Beth's continued success. I just know that you are frustrated and tired after today's search! Take care of you.

  2. Sometimes it just feels like it never ends. I will be praying for resolution to Beth's living arrangement problem and for you, peace. Hang in there.

  3. It can feel like a no win situation that keeps going and going. Its so expensive just to LIVE and for people like Beth (and Keven and all the others) they need all the help they can get, not more challenges. UGH.

  4. The living situation is always the hardest part for my daughter. Because of her mood swings, she is reticent to live with just anybody. She knows that she is difficult but she doesn't want to have to spend so much to put a roof over her head. Rent is by far the largest part of where the money we give her goes. When she gets back from Australia, she has no where to live. She gave up her apartment because it was so expensive, there were too many break ins and it was a fifth floor walk up and she is expecting to have foot surgery. Sometimes I think one piece of the puzzle should be easier...
I wish you and Beth all the luck in the world so that the perfect place falls into your laps.
