Welcome

Welcome to my blog. I hope we can help each other endure the pain of the addiction of a daughter or son.

Back to the beginning

I will retire soon but at the beginning of my career, I worked with poverty stricken language minority children. I actually liked it quite a bit. There was the problem , however, of constantly fighting discrimination, lack of materials, bad facilities etc. etc.  When you work on behalf of a group which is discriminated against, you get discriminated against too.

Now, I am reassigned to work with these kids again. Little do they know that I am now much more able to stand up for their rights within the system. This was given to me as a punishment but I will make the best of it by doing my best to make sure these kids learn. I will also advocate strongly for them to get the resources that they are supposed to get. As a young girl, this was beyond me.

Your comments on my last post were very kind. I will not get anymore promotions before retirement unless there is another really big shakeup. I did do well in my job during all the stress with Beth but I was concentrating on tasks not politics. To be honest, I did not have the energy nor inclination to spend precious time on politics and it bit me in the proverbial ass.

  1. Who knows... maybe the hand of your higher power was at work, putting you in a place where you can use your gifts so well? I like to see it that way, anyway.

  2. Those you will get to work with now, are going to be blessed!

  3. Anna, I worked through every crisis with my son for 10 years, no one could tell what a wreck I was inside. For what? I actually wish I had been more honest--not the grisly details, just to say once "I need to go sit in my car and cry for 10 minutes. I'll be back". I could care less about people who don't get it anymore. If they think they can get out of this life without a heartbreak, more power to them.

I understand how you will help those who don't have a voice. I see the poor and marginalized in a whole new light now.

  4. I really like what everyone above said.
It may have been a punishment, but it can be a promise that today you can make a difference with people way more important in the grand scheme of things - people who need someone like you. You've got a great attitude going, let it shine! God bless.

  5. I hid things about my personal life for a long time. And I still don't make it known at work. Work became my comfortable place to get my mind off what was going on at home. I am glad that I am not leaving this job at a time when my wife is actively drinking.
