Welcome

Welcome to my blog. I hope we can help each other endure the pain of the addiction of a daughter or son.

When Moms Get Involved Drugs Don't Take Hold

I saw the title line in an advertisement from the parnership for a drug free America. Oh, how I wish it were true! I was involved and I am involved.  They should know better.

There are lots of very involved parents who have kids addicted to drugs.

  1. I find that statement very offensive and misleading, its BS!

  2. It's funny because there was probably a time (a long time ago) in all of our lives when we might have believed that line. We know better, don't we?

  3. So true, Anna. That statement is in the same category as Nancy Reagan's: "Just say no". If only it were that simple. I, too, was very involved in my daughter's life - at least, during her formative years. I was sooo deliberate and intentional in raising her. I am still haunted by the question, "When did it all go so wrong for Hayley?" That simplistic statement is naive and yes, offensive. Peggy

  5. Someone once told me that all it takes is one toke or one sip of alcohol to hook an addict. An addict is an addict no matter how they have been raised.
That advertisement is guilt-mongering and uninformed.
My daughter's unstable personality coupled with anxiety made alcohol very attractive, from the first sip, I am sure. And, she was raised in a alcohol-free environment.

  7. Sounds like the person who invented this slogan blames his/her upbringing for his/her own addiction.

  8. There are so many studies that show that addiction/alcoholism is a disease and that the brain chemistry is different in those who are addicted. Casting guilt onto those who already feel bad is unconscionable.
